We took two trips (Gibraltar and Setenil and Ronda), both were professionally organized. They offer English-speaking guides, but you can also explore the chosen destination on your own.

A fantastic day and excellent logistics! The trip from Benalmádena to Gibraltar was perfectly planned. A huge plus for the wonderfully organized dolphin-watching trip – an incredible experience! Our guide, Aleks, was an absolute delight: incredibly positive, smiling, and full of energy. Hats off to his language skills – the ease with which he switched between English and Spanish was impressive. Thanks to him and the excellent organization, this trip was pure pleasure. I highly recommend it!

We've done the Caminito del Rey excursion with Sara and Susana, and also the Gibraltar tour with Alex, both departing from Benalmádena, and both times were perfect. They were super punctual, even arriving 1-2 minutes early. Everything was very well explained; they really talked non-stop. The Caminito del Rey is beautiful and, for me, a must-do excursion because of how incredible the experience is. Regarding Gibraltar, all the tour options are a bit short, so it's impossible to see all of Gibraltar in a single day. You'll have to decide between the Rock Tour, which includes seeing the monkeys and St. Michael's Cave, or going to Gibraltar and having 5 hours free. We opted for the Gibraltar tour with 5 hours free, and at our own pace (we love to walk), we were able to see everything I had noted down in Gibraltar city. We walked the approximately 7 km to the end of the Rock, which is beautiful, and I even had time to see the monkeys and the suspension bridge in the nature reserve on the Rock itself. I didn't want to see any more because my mother was waiting for me downstairs and I didn't want to leave her alone for so long. Otherwise, I could have seen more, although I should mention that the pick-up time for all three Gibraltar tours was 3:30 PM. So, as I said, you won't be able to see all of Gibraltar with any tour. You'd need about 2-3 more hours, so it's a shame they picked us up so early to leave. You can always do a second day tour, or on a future trip to the Costa del Sol (Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Malaga, etc.) take another tour to see what you missed the first time, which is what I'll do next time I go down to Malaga. Alex is fantastic! He's really attentive, knows everything, is a fantastic free spirit, and is the best guide we had, even though everything went well with the girls too. The driver on the Gibraltar tour was also fantastic, but it turned out it was a rented bus because they'd run out of buses due to high demand for tours, as we were told. Regarding the Rock itself, the nature reserve at the top of the Rock, whether you take a tour or not, is quite challenging. The bus tour will save you a lot of walking, hills, stairs, and heat, but even so, the bus won't be able to reach the "entrance" to the attractions, and you'll still have to make some effort. If you go on your own, I'll tell you that even if you're athletic like me and enjoy hiking, the Rock, being so incredibly steep, with its hills, paths, stairs, rocks, and heat, is overwhelming. In the end, it's quite tough; some people find themselves unable to do it or realize they won't be able to see everything because it's so exhausting. If you're traveling independently, remember that the Rock of Gibraltar isn't just about the monkeys and St. Michael's Cave. You'll also find the SkyWalk viewpoint, the Windsor Suspension Bridge, and other beautiful viewpoints and spots. If your route focuses on the city, which is the "flat" and easier part, it's a mistake not to go all the way to the top of the Rock where you'll find the Mosque, the football stadium by the sea, the viewpoints overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar (where you can see Morocco), and the lighthouse. Just a few minutes away is the Monument to Hercules. To see all of these places, you can take bus 2 or R2. A single ticket is cheap, but try to have some small change or, even easier, pay with your mobile phone. You can buy a return ticket. My advice is to take the bus after visiting the Gibraltar Botanical Gardens, which marks the end of the historic center. From there, there's nothing to see until you reach the stop near the Pillars of Hercules (it's about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop; use Google Maps for directions). Then, take the same bus again, and in 5-10 minutes, you'll arrive at the final stop where the mosque and lighthouse are located. It's the same stop for the return trip, and you can then get off right in the heart of the city at Convent Palace, next to Trafalgar Cemetery. The bus route from the Botanical Gardens to the lighthouse takes 15 minutes, saving you the walk along the middle section where there's nothing to see (except for the beaches and harbors, which are further down the coast). That's all I have to say.

The day trip

The Rock, its monkeys and Africa on the horizon

Gibraltar is a British territory on the southern tip of Spain, a small town at the foot of a limestone rock that rises straight out of the sea. This day trip takes you there from the Costa del Sol and back the same evening, with time to explore the town on your own or a guided tour to the top of the Rock.

From the coast to the Rock

The coach picks you up at your stop and runs along the Costa del Sol while the guide tells you the story of this corner of Britain in Spain. In Gibraltar the group stops at the coach park and splits according to the option each person has chosen.

On your own: approximately five hours in Gibraltar

With the free-time option you are dropped in the centre and the day is yours. Main Street for shopping, Casemates Square, the Alameda Botanic Gardens, a walk round Marina Bay or the beaches at Sandy Bay and Catalan Bay. If you feel up to it, the Mediterranean Steps footpath climbs the Rock.

With the Rock Tour

From the coach park, small groups get into a minibus for a guided tour of approximately 1.5 hours. The road crosses tunnels and runs along cliffs above the sea to Europa Point, the southern tip of Gibraltar, where you stop for approximately 15 minutes with the Strait in front of you and Africa on the other side. Then it climbs the Rock to St Michael's Cave, and finishes at the area where the Barbary macaques live in the wild, in the nature reserve of the Upper Rock. After the tour there are approximately three and a half hours of free time, enough for lunch and Main Street.

Back to the coast

At the time the guide gives you, the group meets again and the coach takes you back to the same stop where you were picked up.

Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to enter Gibraltar?

A valid original identity card or passport, for everyone in the group. If you are not an EU or UK citizen, check whether you need a visa before you book: entry to Gibraltar is your responsibility, and if you are turned away at the border the booking is not refunded.

Should I choose the Rock Tour or free time?

The Rock Tour takes you to the three best-known sights — Europa Point, St Michael's Cave and the monkeys — in approximately an hour and a half, without having to organise how to get up the Rock. If you would rather wander the town, shop on Main Street or go to the beach, free time gives you approximately five hours to do it your way.

Can I do the Rock Tour and the dolphins on the same day?

No. The dolphin-watching trip does not include the Rock Tour, and the two cannot be combined on the same day. If you want both, write to us and we'll check whether it can be arranged.

Will I definitely see dolphins?

Not guaranteed. The boat spends approximately an hour and a half in the Strait looking for dolphins and other cetaceans, and which ones you see depends on the time of year.

Is there a breakfast stop on the way?

No. The coach goes straight to Gibraltar, so have breakfast before you leave or use your free time once you are there. Bring a snack and water for the journey.

Is there time for lunch?

Yes, during your free time in Gibraltar. Lunch is not included.

Do children need ID?

Yes. Everyone needs a valid identity document to enter Gibraltar, and on the Rock Tour children must show photo ID; without it, they are charged an adult ticket.

Is it suitable if I have reduced mobility?

The trip with free time or the Rock Tour is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users. The dolphin-watching option can be done with a folding wheelchair, as long as the person can get on and off the coach on their own or with a companion, as there is no specific assistance for boarding: say so when you book. If you have any doubt, write to us before booking.

Can I bring my dog?

No. Pets are not allowed on this trip.

Can I cancel?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before departure, with a full refund. After that, or if you arrive late, don't show up or cannot enter Gibraltar without the right documents, there is no refund.

Can I explore the Rock on my own after the guided tour?

Yes. When the guided Rock Tour ends, you can carry on visiting the Rock's other attractions on your own.

Is there time for duty-free shopping?

Yes. Your free time in Gibraltar is the moment for duty-free shopping, on Main Street for example.

More questions about Gibraltar

Is Gibraltar part of the United Kingdom?

It is a British Overseas Territory: British, but not part of the United Kingdom itself. That is why you cross a border to get in and need your identity document.

What currency is used in Gibraltar?

The Gibraltar pound, on a par with the pound sterling. Many shops and restaurants also accept euros, but change often comes back in pounds, so paying by card is usually simplest.

Can I get to Gibraltar from Benalmádena, Torremolinos or Fuengirola?

Yes. This trip picks up in Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Marbella, so you don't need to make your own way to Málaga first. The exact points, town by town, are under Pickup points by town above.

Are the monkeys dangerous?

They are wild animals used to people, not pets. Keep your distance, keep food out of sight and don't feed them: feeding the macaques is not allowed in Gibraltar.

Can you see Africa from Gibraltar?

On a clear day, yes. From Europa Point you look across the Strait to the coast of Morocco and the mountains behind it.

What is St Michael's Cave?

A limestone cave inside the Rock, full of stalactites and stalagmites and lit in colours. Legend once had it as a gateway to the underworld; today its largest chamber is also used as an auditorium. It is included in the Rock Tour.
